What types of documents can DropToText read?

DropToText reads photos (JPG, PNG), PDFs, scanned documents, typed text, printed text, and handwritten notes. It works with receipts, invoices, contracts, insurance claims, field notes, and more.

Yes. You get 10 free documents with no time limit and no credit card required. After that, the Pro plan is $15 per month for 100 documents.

Do I need to install an app?

No. DropToText works entirely through email. Send a document from any email client on any device. No app, no login, no account setup required.

Is DropToText secure?

Yes. Documents are encrypted at rest and in transit using AWS infrastructure in the US. We do not access your documents except to process them. We never use your documents to train AI models or share them with third parties.

Can I ask questions about my document?

Yes. Reply to any results email with a question and DropToText will answer from the document. For example, you can ask 'what is the total?' or 'when is the due date?' and get an answer in seconds.

How is DropToText different from other OCR tools?

Most OCR tools require you to upload files to a website. DropToText works through email, so there is nothing to install or learn. It also generates plain English summaries and lets you ask follow-up questions about the document, which no other OCR tool does.

These terms govern your use of DropToText. By using the service, you agree to these terms.

What DropToText does

DropToText is a document processing service. You email us a photo or PDF, and we extract the text and return a summary. You can ask follow-up questions about the document by replying to the results email.

Your account

You create an account by sending your first document. Your email address is your account identifier. You are responsible for any activity on your account, including documents sent by authorized senders you add.

Free trial

New users get 10 free documents. There is no time limit on the free trial. No credit card is required. After 10 documents, you need a paid plan to continue.

Paid plans

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Stripe. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. When you cancel, your plan remains active until the end of the billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial months.

Your documents

You own your documents. We do not claim any rights to the content you send us. We process your documents solely to provide the service you requested.

We do not use your documents to train AI models. We do not share your documents with third parties. We do not read your documents except to process them as you request.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the service for illegal purposes
Send malware or malicious files
Attempt to access other users' data
Resell or redistribute the service without permission
Exceed your plan limits through automated means
Process documents you do not own or have permission to use

You represent and warrant that you own or have permission to process any documents you submit to DropToText. You are solely responsible for any copyright infringement or other legal violations resulting from your use of the service.

Data handling and security

Documents are encrypted at rest and in transit. We use AWS infrastructure in the US East region. For details on data handling, see our Privacy Policy.

Service availability

We aim to keep the service running at all times but do not guarantee 100% uptime. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by third-party services, network issues, or circumstances beyond our control.

Limitation of liability

DropToText is provided "as is." We do our best to extract text accurately, but we do not guarantee that the extracted text is 100% correct. You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of the output, especially for legal, medical, or financial documents.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Account deletion

You can request account deletion at any time by emailing hello@droptotext.com. When your account is deleted, all your documents and data are permanently removed within 30 days.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.
